APPLY FOR A GRANT

We provide a limited number of grants to nonprofits serving the San Francisco Bay Area in our focus areas of addiction recovery, violence prevention and grief support. Grant amounts typically range from $500 to $8,000.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Resources are limited; please be sure you are a good fit before applying. The Tim Griffith Foundation reserves the right to revise the grant criteria and/or process at any time.

Guidelines

Grant Eligibility

To be eligible for grant funding, the organization must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS
  • Provide services to those affected by addiction, violence, and loss
  • Provide services that do not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color, religion, or sexual orientation
  • Provide services within the San Francisco Bay Area

Grant Exclusions

We do not provide grants to:

  • Community foundations
  • Medical research
  • Endowment or capital campaigns
  • Individuals
  • Youth sports teams
  • Sponsorship of individuals for fundraising event
  • Religious organizations for religious events or purposes
  • Political causes, candidates, organizations, or campaigns
  • Labor groups
  • Conferences, galas, charity breakfasts, lunches, dinners, balls
  • Indirect costs

Specific Guidelines

  • You may apply only once in a 12-month period
  • Grant size varies depending on program and the Foundation’s resources
  • Grants are for one year; no multi-year commitments
  • Organizations that receive funding must provide a final report prior to applying for additional funding for a subsequent year

How to Apply

Application Requirements

Submit the following dalong with the Grant Application below.

  • A copy of the organization’s annual budget for the current year
  • A copy of the program budget that the Tim Griffith Foundation grant would support, including detailed information on how grant funding will be used
  • Most recently completed fiscal year’s actual revenue/expenses
  • Verification of the organization’s 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
  • Current list of Board of Directors

Additional Details

We require a follow-up report from the organization within 60 days from the end of the funded program to help us gauge the impact of our grant funding. Future requests for funding are not automatically granted, and final reports are an important factor in future funding decisions.
